This is partly for jeebs83 and partly for xkatie_kittenx, since both have requested at various points over the last few days to see the Insanity Underrated playlist ever since I mentioned that I was making one. I did something similar for TIS, as readers of that longfic will know, and I'm beginning to think that a barometer of how serious I am about a fic is whether I make a playlist for it. Heh.

Basically, I as a writer cannot seem to produce anything worth reading unless I listen to music while I am doing it - preferably music that has a lot to do (in my own mind) with whichever characters I happen to be writing about and their story. It's another of my idiosyncratic kinks, just like the fact that I need to have an outline before I start writing any longfic. Since I do make those outlines in advance of a single word getting written, the task of putting together a playlist is made a lot easier.

So. Here be the Insanity Underrated playlist. It is culled partly from my Kara playlist - which in turn heavily influenced my writing of The Sound of One Hand Clapping - and partly from the songs I tend to naturally listen to while I'm working on the fic. In most cases I've included only partial lyrics, but each song title is a link to the full lyrics if you want them. Some songs are further explained by my notes, but I've left others purposefully vague due to spoilers. Those of you who want to figure out their meaning or the reason they're included, put on your thinking caps! ;)

Oh, and the icon? Very, very, VERY relevant. And that's all I'll say for now.

It's something that I just have to write. This particular chapter has been sitting on my hard drive since about late March, but only half of it was written and it was an absolute MESS, so I've prettied it up significantly and added a lot of material. Parts were heavily inspired by Alanis Morrisette's song Front Row, despite the fact that this obviously isn't a songfic. Something tells me I'm going to end up making an Insanity Underrated playlist one of these days. ;) And as for the ending, please don't kill me? It's pilots, so you know things are a bit screwed up. But, as proof that I still do plan to take this fic places, I've come back to it, and I'd like to have the S1 arc finished by the middle of next week. We'll see how good I am at actually, you know, doing that. This chapter is again mainly from Lee's perspective, and the dialogue at the end will be familiar (it's from "Colonial Day"). It might seem mostly like a bridge chapter, and it sort of is, but some important things happen which will set up events for future chapters. Enjoy!

Guys, I thought I was ready for this. I thought I was ready to see the beginning of the end. I thought I was mentally and emotionally prepared, I really did.

All I know is that suddenly, for whatever reason, writing my AU longfic - which I have tentatively decided to call Insanity Underrated - seems exponentially more important now. I can't say why. But dammit, it's something I've got to do.

Maybe it's like my own memorial to the show.

Fic is almost done! *dances* Well, the first part of it, anyway, since there is now no doubt in my mind that this will be a multichapter job. I still have to set up a session with Katie to do some major outlining - since no Liz Multichapter Fic gets written without a detailed beginning-to-end outline - but most of the details are already in my brain, just screaming to be let out. It will be long, spanning probably early Season 1 of BSG right to the end. It will be Lee/Kara. There will be OCs involved (though I'm not saying in what capacity). There will be smut. Basically, I'm looking at doing pretty much what I've done with TIS - exploring what would have happened had something small and minor changed in the lives of these characters. With Lee and Kara, it will be: What if Lee had not danced around the issue of his love for her for so long? What if he had gone after her right from the start? Specifically, right after she rescued herself from the desert moon in S1? Of course, since this is Lee and Kara we're talking about here, it won't be simple. They'll be kept in character, which means lots of hits and misses, second guessing and running away and repression and denials. But I think it'll be a fascinating ride. And I'm quite proud of what I've managed to do with what will end up being Chapter 1, which is extremely rare for me as a writer to say.

Daaaaaamn, I thought kidlets were supposed to make one less creative, not MORE. Apparently it's having the opposite effect on me. o.O Anyway, jeebs83, as Liz's Official Kara/Lee Enabler, I suspect you will be happy. :D

Probably leaving out about five million things, but it's late and I've still got swicontest voting to post. Heh. Discuss away, folks!

This made me crack the FUCK up, I won't lie. ;) And yes, tampering with road signs is a very serious thing, but how can you not get the giggles when you're driving down the road and see this:




Yeah. Seriously. And then, to cap it off, when the highway patrol tried to log in to the system to change it back to whatever it was supposed to say, they found they couldn't because the hackers had reset all the passwords! Officials had to go to the manufacturer to gain access, by which time I'm betting a ton of traffic jams had been caused by people slowing down to take pics. Hehehe.

Elsewhere on the web, there was an interesting article in the New York Times about the politics of defriending on Facebook (which they refer to as "unfriending," but I personally have always preferred the former term). Apparently Burger King offered a promotion where if a person removed ten of their Facebook friends, they'd get a free sandwich, after which point BK would send the spurned friends a message saying something to the effect of, "LULZ, YOU'VE JUST BEEN DUMPED FOR A SANDWICH!!!" They had to eventually end the promotion because it turned out to be a violation of Facebook's terms of service, though. I don't frequent Facebook, as most of you probably know, but I don't think I'd go around removing people just to get a free burger. No worries, guys, y'all are safe. ;)

I will in all probability be posting fic tomorrow, but in the meantime I wanted to point my SW- and A/O-inclined friends to this lovely little Anakin/Obi-Wan vignette by jedi_em. Beautiful writing, great characterization, and it is HAWT. Mmmmmm. And for the BSG crowd, there's a delightful Adama/Roslin crack!fic by the name of "Stranger Than Fiction" which I had a good giggle over earlier today. It's written by mondavis and proceeds on the premise that everyone on Galactica starts shipping A/R when prompted by a fic written by an anonymous author, and eventually even Bill and Laura read it and end up shipping themselves! *grins* Well worth a look-see, if you haven't run across it already. And if you have, hey, read it again!
